Missionary service continues to move forward in the Dallas Texas Mission! I enjoy walking along side such great young & senior missionaries. Pres. & Sis. Durrant are loving serving us all. We were very excited about Pres. Durrants new calling as a counselor in the General Sunday School! He will be a great leader as he serves along side the Apostles & Prophet. They will be leaving our mission the first of July. We will miss them!
As I had the blessing of watching General Conference, I was so touched by the great leaders we have in the church. There can't be any doubt they are called by the Lord to lead and direct us along the path of this life. In a world that's troubled with challenges, the focus continues to be "hold to the rod" and continually look to the Savior for comfort and strength to endure. In doing so, we can continue to find happiness because we work together, love together, and serve together. We are extremely blessed to know that through faith and hope in Him we can have joy! My companion shared this story with our sisters today. It seems so appropriate for us as we carry on......
The Buzzard, The Bat, & The Bumblebee
If you put a buzzard in a pen six or eight feet square and entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of his ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of ten or twelve feet. Without space to run, as is his habit, he will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.
The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.
A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler will be there until it dies unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.
In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up! Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up!
We have a creator who knows all things! He knows of our plight, our struggles, our sorrow and our pain. He is, and always will be there. When trust and faith bring us to him, we will find joy and live!
We had an appointment to take Sis. Nelms to lunch. During the week we and found out Morris having a birthday that day. We take her to lunch quite often. Sometimes we invite him too, but he has never gone with us. We talked him into going and although he sputtered about it. I said, "Morris, how often do you get to go to lunch with three good looking women!" That did it....he came. However, he insisted it had to only be Wendy's for a hamburger! As we were finishing up eating, I went out to the car and came in with the balloon and hats. I asked them to get up so I could take a picture, then turned around to everyone in the restaurant and told them it was his 80th birthday. They clapped for him, and joined with us in a song.
It's a good thing we have a fun relationship with him. We keep urging him to be baptized, and he accepts a little static from us occasionally. When we got back home, he asked how much longer we were going to be on our mission. I told him four months, so he didn't have much more time to be baptized before we go! He looked at me and said, "I'm going to tie you up so you can't leave!" I love this sweet couple!
Plano 3rd Ward YW were in charge of the Easter Breakfast again this year. Marjean enlisted our help and we made 200 waffles for the event. It took several P-Days to accomplish the task, and empting out the freezer to make room to hold them.
